Christmas Prayers

“Papa, do you think it will snow tonight?”

“Well Sophia, it is cold enough, but you know the mountains have their say.  If they do not want the snow to come, they will steal the snows from the clouds as the winds push south.”

“Has it ever snowed here on Christmas Day, Papa?”

“It has, but not in many, many years, Sophia.  That’s part of living on the coast beneath the mountains.

“When did it last snow here?”

“When you were too young to remember, child, before Momma left us.”

“You know what would be nice then, Papa?  I mean if we can have no snow Christmas Day?”

“What, would that be child?”

“It would be even better, Papa, if Enrico were to come home for Christmas!”

“Oh yes, that would be nice.  We missed him last year.”

“And the year before, Papa.”

“Enrico has obligations to his country, Sophia.”

“But still, Papa…”

“We will enjoy the Christmas we are given child.”

“We do have each other.”

“Yes, we do.  And we can wish.”

“And we can pray. Good night, Papa.”

“Good night, child.”

“Papa, merry Christmas!  Do you hear someone knocking at the door?”

“I do. Sophia.  Would you see who it is?”

“Oh, Papa, through the window!  You can see the snow.  We have a Christmas snow!”

“Please see to the door, Sophia, a neighbor may be calling.”

“Yes, Papa.  I am at the door now.  Good morning, sir…  Oh!”

“Good morning, Sophia, and Merry Christmas!”

“Enrico!  Oh, Enrico!  Papa, Papa, it is Enrico!
