Pollinators

Pollinators

“Bzz, bzz. Hey, Burt.”

“Bzz. Huh? What, Barry?”

“What’s that?”

“Where?”

“Right there, in front of you. Bzz. Back up. Move left. Now up.”

“That? I dunno.”

“Looks like a flower.”

“Nope.”

“Why not? Bzz.”

“Too big.  Bzz.”

“I seen bigger.”

“Me too. But nothing that looked like that. Bzz.”

“Don’t mean it’s not a flower.”

“Never seen the likes. Gotta be careful. Lots of anti-us stuff around.”

“So?”

“So if that ain’t a flower it might chew us up and swallow us.”

“Imma check it out.  Bzz.”

“Careful, buddy.”

“Smells like a flower. Not one I recall, but close enough.”

“Big enough to swallow you whole. I don’t see any anthers. You see anthers?”

“Not yet. Bzz.  Ah!  The petals are in the way. Imma go inside and check.”

“Hold it! Don’t go in.”

“Wow!  Lookit the size of that pistil.  And there’s something looks like an anther.”

“You sure?”

“Well, not yet, but it’s huge too, and…”

“I’m telling you. Don’t go in.”

“Must be hundreds of them.  Not anthers. Just four I see.”

“So?”

“I mean hundreds of these things. A great find. I’m going in.  Bzz.”

“I’m leaving.”

“To dance for the hive?”

“No, I’m just leaving.  Bzz.”

“Wait! Don’t leave me here alone.”

“Well. C’mon. Let’s look for flowers we know.”

“Okay, okay. But we might be missing some easy work. Loads of pollen.”

“I see some alfalfa over there.”

“Boring.  Bzz.

“And over there. That’s mammoth clover.”

“Boring and boring.”

“Bzz. Bzz.”

“Bzz. Bzz.”
